The European Team Chess Championships (ETCC) will take place 27 October - 7 November 2007 in the luxurious Creta Maris Conference Hotel in Crete, Greece. The Organizing Committee is ready to offer another 5-star quality event, in line with the high standards established since the World Youth Championships of 2002 and 2004 which were also held in Crete!

The deadline for submission of abstracts for the first Aberdeen Chess in the Schools and Communities International Conference (CISCCON; August 30 to September 1, 2007) has been extended from 22nd December 2006 to 31st March 2007. The abstracts should be no longer than 300 words.

GM Yuri Drozdovskij from Odessa (Ukraine) won the European Rapid Chess Championship (6th AMPLICO AIG LIFE Rapid Tournament) which took place 16-17 December 2006 in the Torwar Hall in Warsaw (Poland) during the 25th Memorial of Stanislaw Gawlikowski.

Nigel Short (England) has won the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2006 in Mumbai, India (November 19-29, 2006). He scored nine points from ten games (rating performance 2798). The women's title took Dronavalli Harika (India) with 7.0/10.

Last year, in November 2005, the then newly founded company Universal Event Promotion (UEP; Dortmund, Germany) offered to organize a World Chess Match of the Champions between Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) and Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), beginning from 25 November 2006. On this very day, another match is being organized by UEP in Bonn, the former capital of the Federal Republic of Germany: the World Chess Challenge 2006 - a man vs. machine chess duel between the absolute world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) and the latest version of "Deep Fritz" (ChessBase, Germany). World Chess Federation FIDE has published all necessary links.

7th International Chess Festival LIBEREC OPEN 2006 and 5th European Veterans Championship in Draughts have been finished on Saturday 18th November 2006. This event was held under the financial support of the Liberec city and it took place within the frame of the 6th CZECH TOUR Series.
