23 girls and 38 boys under eight years from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Estonia, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine are participating in the first European U8 championship in Batumi (October 12-23). This event is organized by the Government of Georgia, Georgian Chess club "Kazus", Georgian chess federation and Adjarian chess federation with support of the Turkish chess federation.

Chess and Music Festival in the Château de Villandry

The Château de Villandry is one of the most visited castles in France and famous for its gardens. On  October 20th & 21st a festival "Chess and Music" will be held here. The organizers are the French chess federation, the City of Loches and Henri Carvallo, the current owner of the castle and a good chess player. The festival celebrates the memory of André-François Danican Philidor (1726 - 1795). Nicolas Dupont Danican Philidor, a descendant of the famous chess player and composer, will open a conference on "Philidor Le Grand" on October 20.
