FIDE has initiated a free bi-weekly Newsletter service to provide timely information from the chess world. Newsletter 5, 2008, issued by the Editorial Board (PR&M Director Peter Rajcsanyi, Executive Director David Jarrett, Treasurer Nigel Freeman) was published recently. BALC Meeting

On April 23, 2008 Novotel Plovdiv (Bulgaria) hosted a meeting of the Balkan Chess Federation (BALC). BALC was established on August 20, 2006 in Athens, by the chess federations of Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Turkey as founding members. ECU President Boris Kutin and ECU Board Member Vladimir Sakotic attended the BALC meeting.
