Nicola Palladino, the former President of the Italian Chess Federation "Federazione Scacchistica Italiana", died in Milan. He has devoted his life to chess. He organized the super tournament in Milan 1975 (Lajos Portisch/HUN ahead of Anatoly Karpov/URS, Tigran Petrosyan/URS and Ljubomir Ljubojevic/YUG) and the world chess championship match between Anatoly Karpov and Viktor Korchnoi in Merano in 1981. Within the World Chess Federation FIDE he served as Chairman of the Chess in Schools Committee for many years and chaired the Verification Commission. In 1995 he was made an Honorary Member of FIDE.
