Circular Letter No. 14/2006

Dear Friends,

The European Club Cup 2006 in Fügen/Austria was a big success and a new record as to the number of participating teams. 56 clubs in the men’s (open) section and 11 in the women’s cup took part. Congratulation to the winning teams of Tomsk 400/Russia (men) and Mika Jerewan/Armenia (women).

Attached you will find the announcement of the European Individual Championships in Dresden/Germany 2007 which will be held from 2 until 16 April 2007 in the International Congress Centre in Dresden. The application forms will be available later on the internet. There you will find the bank account for the hotel payments as well.

Regarding the MonRoi Grand Prix we can inform you that the seminar for organizers as already mentioned in our Circular Letter no. 12/2006 will be held in Berlin/Germany from 1 to 3 December 2006. The federations and the organizers having shown interest in it will be informed about further details within the next days.

As there seems to be an interest for a similar Grand Prix for women we will try to establish such an event for them. We therefore ask all organizers of open women’s tournaments as well as national federations to promote women chess by including their tournaments into the MonRoi Women’s Grand Prix. Please, let us know as soon as possible which tournament organizers are interested in such a project. Additional costs will not arise.

The ECU website (http://www.eurochess.org) has been improved. There you will find a lot of news and updated information. Our webmaster Vladimir Beliavski and our press officer Gerald Schendel are working hard in order to present more or less daily news. All federations are requested to update their own data. If you need any support don’t hesitate to contact either the webmaster or our secretariat in Berlin.

Furthermore Gerald Schendel needs the data concerning all press officers of the European federations. The names and contact addresses should be published on our website as well as in the next ECU Manual. We therefore ask you to let us know the names and addresses of the office bearers.

In our Circular Letter no. 13/2006 it was announced that we will organize a EU seminar in Brussels. Meanwhile it has been agreed that this conference should be held on 6 and 7 June 2007. We would like to ask all federations and national representatives to take notice of this date. Details will be given as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Horst Metzing

Secretary General
