Dear Friends,
Concerning the 2002 European Individual Championship the board had promised to make a final decision by 4 March 2002. As the negotiations have not been finished yet, we really do not know exactly whether we will hold this event this year. We can only assure you that you will be informed as soon as possible.
Meanwhile all federations have received the invitation to the European Individual Women’s Championship being held in Varna / Bulgaria from 26 May until 9 June 2002. We hope a large number of players will be nominated by you.
The European Club Cup is going to be hosted by the Chess Academy of D.E.I. Northern Greece in Kallithea, Halkidiki (Greece) from 21 until 29 September 2002. Attached you will find the official invitation.
Immediately after the European Club Cup, the Kydon Sports Club will organize the European Rapid and Blitz Championship. Venue will be Panormo Rethymno (Imperostar Creta Marine and Panorama Hotel). Arrival is 29 September, departure 4 October 2002. The invitations will be distributed later by the organizer.
The 4th European Senior Team Championship was a big success. 22 teams participated in Dresden. Congratulations to the Chess Academy Moscow being the winning team and ahead of the two German teams from Berlin and Saxonia.
In order to strengthen the activities of the ECU Grand Prix, Boris Kutin has appointed Mr Agostino Scalfi as Deputy Director (Address: Hameau Rochefort, 9. By the way, we would like to remind you that the deadline for bids for the European Youth Championship 2003 and for the European Individual Championship 2003 is the end of March 2002.
