Circular Letter No. 09/2002
Dear friends,
The ECU General Assembly took place in Bled/Slovenia on 7 November 2002. Attached you will find the minutes. The printed version with the annexes will be posted to all our member federations.
The new elected Board met for a short meeting in Bled in order to take first decisions.
The appointment of one of the Board members as Deputy President was postponed to the next meeting.
Horst Metzing/Germany has been unanimously reappointed as Secretary General.
The tournament directors had been confirmed for the same duties as before:
Dr. Dirk De Ridder: European Club Cup
Werner Stubenvoll: European Womens´ Club Cup
Agostino Scalfi: Grand Prix
The European Youth Team Championship 2003 has been granted to the Hungarian Chess Federation. It will be held in Balatonlelle in July under the same conditions as this year.
Following the structure of a new long term tournament calendar and upon the request of the ECU General Assembly the Board decided to move the deadlines for bids for the European championships forward. Attached you will find the updated tournament calendar. Please note that bids for the European Club Cup 2003 should reach our secretariat by 1st December 2002. The decision about the venue will thereafter be taken by the end of this year.
Concerning the 3rd European Grand Prix 2003 you will find the announcement of tournament director Agostino Scalfi attached. Organizers of the important open tournaments and their respective federations being interested in this Grand Prix should contact Mr Scalfi by the end of this year.
From some of the European Federations we have received their membership figures (attached). We still would appreciate any additional figure or information.
The Board has accepted the invitations for its meetings in St. Vincent/Italy from 14 until 17 February 2003 and in Gothenburg/Sweden from 24 until 27 April 2003.
Best regards,
Horst Metzing
Secretary General
