Dear Friends,

Circular Letter No. 7/2005

Last weekend the Turkish Chess Federation hosted the ECU Board for a regular meeting once more. This time it was organized on the occasion of the World Junior Championship in Istanbul. Many thanks to the federation and President Ali Nihat Yazici.

The Board has taken some decisions concerning the forthcoming European championships.

In order to avoid a clash with the French and the German National Team Championships the dates of next year’s European Individual Championships (Open and Women) have been postponed by two days. These championships will be held in Kusadasi/Turkey from 3 respectively 4 to 19 April 2006.

12 players from the Women’s and 16 players from the open championship will qualify for the next FIDE World Cup. Attached you will find the official invitations.

President Boris Kutin negotiates with interested organizers concerning the 2007 European Individual Championships. A final decision can be accepted by the end of next January.

The European Club Cup 2006 is going to be hosted by Fuegen/Austria from 7 to 15 October. Kemer/Turkey will organize the 2007 Club Cup in autumn. The final dates still have to be fixed. There should be enough time between the European Club Cup and the European Team Championship which will be hosted by the Greek Chess Federation in Heraklio/Crete from 20 to 31 October 2007.

We have received 4 excellent bids for the European Youth Championship 2007. Therefore it was very difficult for the Board to make the right decision. Finally, this championship has been granted to Sibenik/Croatia (13 to 24 September).

The European Rapid Championship will be organized in Warsaw/Poland from 7 to 19 December 2005. Invitations have already been distributed by the Warsaw Foundation for Chess Development.

We can announce that there will be once more a European Rapid Women’s Championship next year. The venue is Znojmo/Czech Republic (12 to 14 May 2006).

Invitations for the European School Team Championship in Varna/Bulgaria from 20 to 30 June 2006 have been sent to all federations. Bids for the 2007 championship have to reach our secretariat by 1 March 2006.

Due to scheduling problems, the European Internet Championship 2005 has to be postponed to the beginning of next year. Now it is supposed to be from 21 to 22 January 2006.

We would like to remind you that deadline for bids for the European Team Championship 2009 is 1 March 2006.

ECU Youth Co-ordinator Goran Antunac asks for the federation’s opinion concerning the European Youth Team Championship. Please find a questionnaire attached which should be returned to him by mid of December.

The next ECU Board Meeting will be hosted by the Croatian Chess Federation in Dubrovnik from 26 to 29 January 2006.

The British Chess Federation has changed its name. On 22 October in London the English Chess Federation was officially formed and is now the governing body for chess organization in England.
