Dear Friends,
Circular Letter No. 8/2005
As we already informed you a clash between next year’s European Individual Championships and the National Team Championship of France and Germany has to be avoided. Unfortunately, the hotel in Kusadasi/Turkey is not available for a later period. Therefore, the dates for these championships have to be adjusted once more. In addition the number of rounds will be decreased to 11 for both categories. This means that the arrival date is 3 April and departure 17 April. Attached you will find the official invitations.
After some internal discussions, the Board will propose to the General Assembly 2006 in Torino that in the future only 11 rounds will be played. The advantage is a reduction of the costs for all players. The Board does not see any disadvantages of such a change of the tournament rules, because FIDE will not accept a 12 rounds title norm anymore as for an immediate title award.
Concerning the European Individual Championships 2007 Boris Kutin is still negotiating with some interested organizers. A final decision can be expected by the end of January next year.
To our great disappointment the European Commission has not accepted the application of the Dutch Chess Federation for a grant from the Socrates Programme for a European Congress “Chess at School”. Due to the short notice of this decision the Dutch Chess Federation postponed this congress to a later date. A lot of European federations and ECU have supported this project. We therefore will do our best to realize it in 2007 and 2008.
All European federations have received from ECU Treasurer Kamen Thoskov the 2004/05 invoices. We know that there might be some unclear positions which have raised from the transitional period before he took over the office in Gothenburg. He will do his best to clarify these issues.
